Jesus uses the word ‘church’ (ekklesia in Greek) only two times in the four Gospels. Both occur in the Gospel of Matthew and one of them is today’s passage (Matthew 16:13-19) for the Feast Day of the Apostles Peter and Paul on June 29th.

In today’s Gospel, from the Second Sunday of Matthew (4:18-23), Jesus encounters the fishermen, two sets of brothers, Peter and Andrew, James and John. Jesus tells them to leave their nets and come follow Him. Jesus is calling us to follow Him.
