Missions and Benevolence
The Saint George Missions and Benevolence Committee is concerned with promoting philanthropy in its original and purest expression i. e., “love for one’s fellow man”, love expressed in thought, word, and deed, cognizant of the fact that God is love.
Responding to the apostolic exhortations that “our love may abound more and more, with deep knowledge and discernment” (Philippians 1:9) and that “faith without works is dead” (James 2:26), this committee seeks to motivate all communicants, men and women, young and old, to be more philanthropic in their outlook and to create community outreach towards philanthropic needs in the Saint George community, the Twin Cities, and beyond.
To accomplish this goal, the Missions and Benevolence Committee will emulate the work of the Greek Orthodox Archdioceses national Philanthropy at the parish level, working closely with various community organizations and our Ladies’ Philoptochos Society.
Loaves and Fishes/Focus MN
At this time we are proud to be able to cook and serve hot meals to the hungry at least 9 times a year at Faith Lutheran Church in Saint Paul through Loaves and Fishes, and up to 3 times a year in Minneapolis through FOCUSMN. On any given night we host dinners, we can serve over 100 meals to poor and underprivileged people and families. We have also donated our time and treasures to the following organizations in the past and will continue to support Organizations and Charities that are aligned with our Mission:
|OCMC||FOCUS MN||Hellenic College Holy Cross Fund||IOCC|
|Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry||Orthodox Christian Network||Saint Paul Area Council of Churches||OCF|
|Philoxenia House||Loaves and Fishes||Saint George Priests Discretionary Fund|
We are able to fulfill our Mission through the generous contributions of our parishioners to the operating budget of Saint George and through various fundraisers held throughout the year.
